Meditation is an exercise, aiming to prevent thoughts in a natural way, by deeply relaxing the physical body and then trying to keep the mind completely "blank" with no thoughts whatsoever. This state may be maintained for a few seconds or a few hours, depending on your skill. Purity of the mind achieved during meditation is essential to gain access to Higher Self. It seems that our Higher Self does not admit any impurities. Meditation seems to be an essential skill to attain the ultimate enlightenment
The most difficult task in life is control of “mana, vachan and karm” that is mind or thought, speech and action.
Control of Mind or Thought
The most difficult thing is control over mind. The mind is swayed by various thoughts. It becomes like a ball hit by stimuli from all senses sound, touch, sight, smell and taste. It is the mind that is never satisfied. It is always in motion. It indulges in never – ending series of carnal enjoyments and the human being instead of being master of its senses, becomes the slave. Self – analysis is the key to attain control over mind another way of controlling the mind is meditation.
Control over Speech
Control over speech is very important. To hurt feelings, to tease, abuse, utter harsh words and express hatred or to make fun of anyone is lack of control over speech. On the contrary, sweet words melt heart of even an enemy and convert him to become a friend. There is a power in the words spoken by a person, who has control on speech, which attracts or influences others. That is why each word spoken by great souls has weight. To practice control of speech, observance of silence is required. For example, it may be observed for a day in a month and on that day, introspection should be done. There is great strength in silence. Nature is silent and almighty who is unseen is also silent.
Control over Action
It is important to understand the difference between right and wrong action. What could be right and normal in one society could be wrong for another. Basic rule is that there is a never a feeling of guilt after doing a good deed. One, who is a “karmyogi”, does not sway from his way – no matter how many difficulties he may have to face and he works without the desire of fruit. It is not easy to work without desire of fruit. So if there has to be one, let it be the positive desire. It is good to be involved in the stream of activities, thinking positively and keeping the mind calm. |
